In this book, you will find that many of our ancestors settled in the Rio Grande border areas in the mid-1700s. Many of us descend from these shared ancestors, with family lines that intertwine and stretch back for centuries. Most of these ancestors came from Monterrey and the ranches around that area. Throughout the years, beginning in the 1500s, they came mostly from Europe—Spain, Portugal, and the Canary Islands—traveling through Cuba, Vera Cruz, Tampico, and Mexico City, eventually making their way to the mining regions of Zacatecas, Saltillo, and Monterrey. From Zacatecas, some continued on to Coahuila and Nuevo León in the early 1600s. Some followed the Camino Real to Coahuila, while others went to Saltillo, Monterrey, and Cerralvo. By the mid-1700s, most had settled in Camargo, Mier, and Revilla (now Guerrero), where they received land grants from the King of Spain. Most of these ancestors’ land grants were on the north side of the Rio Bravo (Rio Grande). This book serves to add to the rich collection of records and information on these families and extend their lasting legacy. Read more
